Wine tasting at San Sebastian Gastronomika

The tasting began with VINE ALBINA White Barrel Fermented 2013. As explained by Pablo, Riojanas has trade agreements with some wineries in Rueda, so at no time raised bet on new foreign varieties of the Control Board. "We like these viuras, 40 or 45 years of average age, limiting yields and allow us to do this type of wine, gastronomic, with mouthfeel and a pronounced acidity." Monte Real was one of the first estate wines from Rioja. The grapes, all from the same place in Cenicero, correspond to historic vineyards owned by the winery that originally distinguished himself as a Burgundian bottle instead of the traditional Bordeaux to refer to the origin located. MONTE REAL Crianza was presented by the winemaker later on, a crianza saddled between crianza and reserva, which was thought a few years ago for the hospitality industry: "There is a greater extraction of color and aged for 18 months in new American oak barrels and dual use", explained the winemaker. The tasting shows the power advertised, but with kindness in the drink. Then was the turn of MONTE REAL Reserva de Familia 2008, a selection of the vineyards of the estate of the same name. Three years in barrel and two wine bottle for this, in addition to the bottle and the stylized image, rises in color intensity on the nose but still remembers the classic Rioja with its own audience. In any case, Monte Real was always the wine with more tannic structure of the house as a result of the vineyards which the grapes come from. Later on, GRAN ALBINA Reserva 2008, almost similar percentage mix of Tempranillo, Mazuelo and Graciano. The result is a wine with high acidity, but not aggressive, very sweet and different, since the two usually minority varieties do not clearly identify a classic Rioja: "We do it with love, selection, as something new, but without leaving the concept of fine wine." Viña Albina is another historical concept of Bodegas Riojanas, the fine wine. Blend of grapes (tempranillo, graciano and mazuelo) and origin in Cenicero, Briones, San Vicente de la Sonsierra, where Riojanas has another winery that produces about 1.5 million kilos and even Villalba, western boundary area caratcerizada by the need to keep long acidity. And to finish this wine tasting we chose VIÑA ALBINA Gran Reserva 2006. With a mix of traditional Rioja grapes (80% Tempranillo, 15% Mazuelo, 5% Graciano) give rise to a classic wine though far from the rust-colored 90-80s and very pleasant in the mouth and complex nose.
