Bodegas Riojanas Group presents Viore 2013, a premium Verdejo white
Viore has a distinct personality provided by the unmistakable character of the Verdejo grapes, with their aromatic intensity and great structure. Its main quality factors are the climate and soils of the D.O. Rueda. The grapes come from vines that are over 20 years old, planted in the vicinity of La Seca, on a plateau situated at an altitude of over 750 metres above sea level. The soil has a first layer of stones, followed by a sandy-clay layer, with a very low organic content. The continental climate, with cold winters and hot and dry summers, provides strong contrasts in temperature between day and night, achieving a perfect balance between acidity and sugar in the grapes.
The harvest combines the best of the most ancient methods with the most innovative practices, such as night harvesring, which takes advantage of the low temperatures to preserve all the aromatic potential of the Verdejo variety. A cold soak helps achieve greater aromatic extraction. This is followed by 10 to 12 days of fermentation in stainless steeel tanks at a constant temperature of about 15 degrees. The wine is then left to lie over lees for 3 months, so it can acquire greater complexity.
On tasting, the Viore evinces a clean, bright, pale yellow with greenish reflections and aromas of tropical and citrus fruit combining with a floral background. In the mouth, it proves well-structured, with an enveloping, with a long, fruity finish underscored by a hint of bitterness, typical of the Verdejo.
The Bodegas Riojanas, S.A. Group has opted for white wines in view of growing demand in all markets, completing its select wine list from four designations of origin, using the most recognised Spanish grape varieties -Albariño, Verdejo and Viura-. The fashionable Verdejo form Rueda, VIORE, and the surprising Verdejo from the D.O. Toro, PELAMONTE, join the elegant Albariño, from Rías Baixas, VEIGA NAÚM, and the classic Rioja Viura, VIÑA ALBINA. A selection of the best Spanish white wines -ideal for frinking in the summer, both to accompany tapas and with full meals- with which the century-old winery from Rioja stays at the forefront of modern trends.
